Default Intermittent stalling and dying while at a stop

I have read through many threads related to stalling and dying while at a stop and have trouble knowing a systematic approach to trial and error to solve this problem. Like many others, my truck will restart and seems to run fine otherwise. I was wondering if the first step would be to run Forscan while driving around and log problem when it occurs. I am not familiar with doing this and just wondering if someone knows if this makes sense or a more step 1, step 2 ...approach without spending money or time on things that won't solve the problem. I will plan to keep this thread fully going until (we) get this problem solved. Hopefully I can do most of this on my own without taking to a service center.

Had the same issue for awhile. Turned out to be the VCT solenoids. After replacing them the stalling stopped. Soon after found out number 8 cylinder was shot. Engine replacement soon followed. Hopefully a better outcome for you!

You want to start by scanning for codes, then you want to do a good visual inspection of all components under the hood, listen for anything odd or off that is new, example would be whistling or hissing noises that aren't normal, I'd check spark plugs and air filter and tap on your converters and listen for rattle, if you don't have any codes in forscan then you're going to want to check mode 6 and watch for misfires and take note on which cylinder(s) you're getting misfires, start with that and see where it gets you, might find the culprit or you might have to dig deeper, check compression if you can too

Replaced VVTs and have driven over 1K miles since and no issue.
