Default Intermediate shaft play

So I can feel slop in my steering wheel and I've been fighting with it for awhile now. Today while I was under the hood I noticed the intermediate shaft for the steering linkage. Well I reached down and I can physically shake it back and forth side to side. Should there be that much play in the steering shaft? The intermediate shaft looks like it can lengthen and shorten and it has play at that slip joint. I can take a video if I am not making sense.

In my opinion it shouldn't move at all... Also it looks very poorly supported past the firewall. Looks easy to replace at least...

Thanks fellas

Telescoping is done entirely inside the cab, within the first steering link, just past the black shroud.
