Default Insertion of oil dipstick

Such a silly to question to ask, but I have a question. I recently started doing my oil changes again. I have a issue with my dipstick. Are you suppose to insert the dipstick with the hash side up? Since my dipstick seems a little flimsy more than usual on this truck. Thank you in advance

Huh?? Mine has a yellow handle with a loop/finger hole and the other end has hashmarks for oil level. Only one way you can put it in.

Not true, with the bend in the dipstick tube, you can put the dipstick in with the hash marks up (towards the engine) or down (away from engine) I always put it in hash marks up..

I think he's meaning orientation of the hash marks once inserted in the tube? If that's the case, it doesn't matter.

I get the same thing. The side of the dipstick facing down (away from the engine) picks up oil from the dipstick tube, causing it to read wrong. This is why I put the hash marks up (towards engine).

This guide by Ford makes no mention of hash orientation: https://owner.ford.com/support/how-t...motor-oil.html

Interesting... I don't think the manual says anything on dipstick orientation. I would suspect that hash marks down you're getting a high reading due to the hash marks dragging the dipstick tube.
