I've seen these too. Not worth the sticker they're printed on legally speaking, but the problem is how would you ever prove the rock actually came from the truck in front of you without having it on video? Insurance is the answer to this, but unfortunately several claims will likely make the premium go up. A windshield without all the fancy gadgets will probably run 3 or 4 hundred bucks, so insurance might not even be worth it. Just save the 20 bucks a month and pay out of pocket when the time comes.
