Hyper milage
This weekend I made a 1200 mile round trip to pick up a boat. No interstates, just US and state highways with speed limits of 55-65. 27.1 mpg going and 19.2 pulling about 2,000 pounds on the return trip, hand calculated. The dash was about 1 mpg higher. Summer blend diesel must be back at the pumps.
I got 30 coming back from New Mexico on I25 heading for Dalhart Texas. Had a tail wind but the cruise was set at 80mph. Turned off on the two lane road to Dalhart, too many runs close to 100 passing Semis. I figured the mileage at Dalhart, got a little over 26. Next morning the wind had switched; got a little over 13 from Dalhart to Ks. 2018 Fx4 screw 5.0 3:31 10 speed.
Best I’ve ever done is winding back roads at mixed speeds up to 65. I feathered the pedal like I was on a pump track for a full weekend with an empty bed. The best I hit was a real world 18.5 mpg hand calc on my 17 6 speed 5.0 crew cab FX4.. 93 gas, fresh air filter, dry weather in the 60’s on factory tires with a 2.5 level. I think I was up to 20 mpg on the cluster, but the hand calculations determined that was a lie…
I’ve never seen it since… Or bothered to try.
