Default Hvac Problems

Hello, I am new to this forum but need some help. I have a 2015 Ford F150 Lariat that has some AC/Heat issues. Car has DualZone air.

Here is what is happening:
1. The driver side is blowing out hot air only.
2. The passenger side blows out AC air only.
3. THe back seat air vents: Driver side blows hot air only / the passenger side blows outside air temp (it seems)

I can see the driver-side actuator working to vents (defrost, vents to lower vents)

Thoughts?

Dual Automatic Temperature Control (DATC) uses temperature blend doors to control the temperature of the discharge air. There are four temperature sensors, two in the panel, two in the floor, that the controls use to determine the air temperature. All air passes over the A/C evaporator and gets cooled, the temperature blend door then directs some or all of the air through the heater core to reheat it as needed.

A scan for DTCs with FORScan or a diagnostic scan tool (not an OBDII code reader) will help to determine the exact cause of the problem. Blend door actuators are a fairly common failure point. The driver side (Item 10) is easy to replace. The passenger side (Item 4) is a real pain to change.

did not go? the lysol usually works. spray lysol into the air intake by the wipers with AC running. don't be stingy give it a good blast. . shut the truck/car off immediately and let sit for at least an hour. the lysol kills the bacteria causing the smell (dirty diaper)

52Merc,

Question: If I can see the actuator moving under the driver-side console, does that indicate anything? The vents change from airflow from defrost vent, to mid. and then to lower air movement. Could that mean that it is the passenger-side actuator?

Also because the passenger-side temps do not change, could that indicate sensor vs actuator? The passenger-side vents put out cold air and outside air temp only. No heat at all.

Thanks

What you are describing is a properly functioning Air Distribution Door (Item 1). Keep in mind that this actuator changes the air flow direction (floor, panel, defrost) for both sides at the same time.

Assuming your A/C and heater systems are function properly, only the Temperature Blend Doors change the discharge air temperatures. If the passenger side temperature is not changing, then it is most likely the passenger side Temperature Blend Door actuator (Item 4) that is not working properly. Since you can't easily get at that actuator to see if it is moving, the best way to confirm that as the issue is to perform a DTC scan with FORScan of a diagnostic scan tool (not an OBDII reader).

The temperature sensors are fairly robust and do not often fail. The door actuators, on the other hand, tend to be more prone to failure than the sensors.
