So the use it to ensure no movement when theres a step only. This is my 5th f150 and first tailgate step. Ive walked on and drove on all my previous and never had such an issue.

Someone said it earlier in the thread but just to reiterate, you need to have the tailgate close to the closed (vertical) position on 2020 f150’s. I tried pulling on it horizontal for about 20 mins before trying vertical and it pulled out with minimal effort.
