How many follow the oil life monitor?

Dealer here jacked theirs up to $80. It was just under $60 on my previous visit. I commented on the increase and they said they had done market research and were still cheaper than anyone around (must have called the Porsche and BMW dealers). Then he said all the work is done by Ford certified mechanics and with Ford fluids. I mentioned that there are other Ford dealers who also have 'Ford certified' mechanics and who also use Ford fluids and who charge less. He took $20 off, I paid and left. I called my old dealer from the parking lot and they were at $60...but after 4, the 5th is free.
Oh, and I go roughly 5,000 miles. If I followed the OLM I'd probably be closer to 9,000.

I did replace the CCV........ did nothing to improve oil consumption, unfortunately.

I am working up towards and annual, approximately 11,000-12,000 mile change interval with Amsoil (or I may use Schaeffer 9000 synthetic based on my test results). I'll likely back it off to 10,000 miles to make it easy to remember - and add a cushion.

I only have a little over 2K on my truck so I haven't changed the oil yet. But my plans are to change the oil and have tires rotated every 5K. My first oil change will be free and then I can buy a package of 10 oil changes for $150. That is only $15 an oil change. I can't buy the oil and filter for that. They only do this for people that have bought a new vehicle from them. I guess it is a way to keep you coming back and I'm sure they will try to sell me some other service.

When the truck says change it I change it. Not before and not after.

I don't change my oil.
Run it for 30k and turn it in at lease end.
Just kidding. I go based on the dashboard telling me an oil service is due. It's recommended in the booklet and all work is done at Ford dealer for record purposes. They suggest it, I follow it.
I also work in the Fleet world so I know things like the fact that 710 fluid DOES exist.

This is OT for this thread but something interesting that I remember. It was probably 20-30 years ago that a cousin of mine told me he never changed the oil in his car. At some point he changed the filter which meant adding a quart of fresh oil. Then when he checked his oil and added a quart as necessary. He even went a step further and used rerefined (or whatever they called it) oil. I guess he never had a problem doing this or he wouldn't have kept doing it. Or maybe he chose not to share the problems with me.
