Default Hood open message

Hi all, checked the oil on my 2020 2.7 two days ago, closed the hood and got a message that my hood was open/unlatched. I have open and slammed it shut about 5 times since and I am still getting the same warning. Also, Is this just a computer/sensor issue? My Ford Pass also won't remotely start the truck because it says that the hood open.

On my 2013 the hood switch /plunger is mounted halfway between the front and rear of the engine compartment on the driver side right at the hood fender area. I would try it manually and see if it helps. Could also jump it out to test it.

There is a sensor in the latch that can go bad. When mine went, it also set off the alarm so can’t say for sure if that’s your issue. For me the fix was a new latch assembly so recommend you go to the dealer.

A simple examination of the latch mechanism should show you how it's sensing the closure, and it may be a simple adjustment. Otherwise, the dealer needs to replace it. Remote start is designed to not work while that "fault" exists.

A little lube may help, it did on my '17, same thing.

Is it a sensor or a switch. I believe it may be an arm actuated micro switch. Does anyone have an assembly breakdown of the latch assembly.

The sensor is just a switch built into the latch assembly. They are a common problem and the latch assembly needs to be changed out. I haven't had a problem with my truck yet so I haven't taken one apart, but my guess is it is just a cheap push button switch like what is inside the bed lamp switch.

I remember Max saying to put a jumper on the plug so that system thinks the hood is closed while left open. This was a thread about using a battery charger and leaving the hood open and needing the truck to remain asleep. This could be a temporary solution for those out of warranty until you can get a new latch assembly. About $65 from Rock Auto.

True but he's asking for some insight.
