Default HomeLink Range Poor

I have a 2016 F-150 Platinum with HomeLink and have been having issues with it opening and closing my garage. It seems that the range is extremely poor and that I have to be extremely close to the garage door in order to open/close it. In addition, there have been times when the button did absolutely nothing until I turned the car off and then back on again. The 3 other cars our family has does not have any of these issues.

Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Thanks!

Yes, the Homelink in my truck is horrible. I just purchased a 2016 Ford Edge for my wife. It will open the garage door from the end of a 200' driveway. My truck is 50/50 from 20' away. I have found that rolling down the driver's window helps. Also, I have found that holding the button down for 5-10 seconds will work too.

Having the same issue with my '15 Platinum! Won't open the garage door until I'm literally facing right at it.

SSM 45412 - 2011-2016 Multiple Vehicles – Universal Garage Door Programming Concerns

Some 2011–2016 vehicles equipped with the Universal Garage Door Opener (UGDO) may have difficulty programming to certain customer devices. Prior to performing diagnostics for unable to program, refer customers to their Owner's Manual and www.homelink.com for vehicle line and garage door opener specific step by step instructions on programming the Universal Garage Door Opener

SSM 45635 - 2015 F-150 - Universal Transmitter - Poor Range - Built On Or Before 11/30/2015

Some 2015 F-150 vehicles built on/or before 11/30/2015 and equipped with a universal transmitter may exhibit poor range while attempting to operate a garage door. A poor range concern may be present if the battery was weak in the original transmitter used to program the universal transmitter. If the universal transmitter is inoperative at any distance, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-02 for normal diagnostics. If the universal transmitter functions properly at a very close distance, poorly at normal distances and the battery of the original transmitter was good when programming the universal transmitter, then replace the sun visor. The sun visor has been updated for this concern. Refer to the parts catalog for the appropriate part number required for each vehicle.

Thanks for the great info! Sounds exactly like my issue and I know it wasn't the transmitter battery because I bought a brand new one when I programmed it.

Unfortunately, it looks like this SSM applies to the 2015 model and mine is a 2016 built in April 2016. Do you think the dealer will still apply it to my year model and replace the visor or say it doesn't apply? I know all dealers are different, but just your thoughts in general.

Thanks again!

I can't answer that question. Probably need to contact your local Service Dept.

There's another thread on this issue that may help. I will try to find it.

I have the same issue. My opener programs fine, but will not open the door some of the time. The build date for my truck is after the SSM dates, so not applicable. I know it is a Homelink visor issue because my 2016 Ford Edge works fine.
