Default High'ish idle

Auto started this morning while getting ready and when I went out 5-6 mins later tach was at 1500. Seems kinda long for it not to drop down to the norm 8-900 on a cold morning start. Temp was at 0.

Motor is a 5.0. I noticed since its gotten colder out it does idle high for a few mins then drops down but today seemed longer then norm?
Anyone else have this issue or is it a Ford norm? I'm coming from having gm's

I noticed the same thing. It was -18C here this morning and the high idle lasted several minutes. 5.0 motor as well.

This is a new normal. They want the engine to warm up asap for a couple of reason. First is emissions related the second is lubrication related. The higher rpms at startup allow higher oil pressure instead of idling normal. The quicker the engine gets to temp the better it will be for emissions as well.

Nothing to worry about, I noticed since it got much colder my truck stays at the higher idle a little bit longer than usual. (Usually at 1200 RPM) then drops to 800 RPM and when fully warmed up, goes down to 600-650RPM

This is what I experienced as well. The 5.0 is lowest idling engine when warm I have ever had. Mine is right around 600 ish too.
