Help!! What would you do?
First, as a new guy to this forum, a little background on my situation. I have been a Chevy truck guy all my life. I gave up trucks about 8 years ago after my 3rdand 4th children (twins) were born. There was no way I could safely transport the whole family in a truck, soI sold my prized possession and went with a suburban. My oldest kids are now able to safely ride inthe front seat and I have convinced my wife to let me get back into atruck. After painstaking research on theBig 3, I settled on Ford for my new truck. Among many reasons, one was that Ford is the only truck with a full sizemiddle front seat with a headrest and a shoulder seatbelt - two must haves ifmy kids are going to be riding in that seat. Overall, I just think that the Ford is a better product right now. I was tempted by the Dodge, but the frontseat thing killed it, and the Chevy was never really in the running becausethat truck is just a mess right now - bad styling and reliability issuesgalore.
I had to order the truck to get the bench seat in a Lariatwith the features I wanted. I am alsoeligible for x-plan pricing through my employer. Once I decided on Ford I begantalking to a dealership about 200 miles away from my home that my father-in-lawhas done business with for years. Ithought I would get a better deal on my trade-in, although that didn’t end upbeing the case. I told them what Iwanted and they priced it for me using x-plan pricing, but I never told them toorder the truck. After thinking about itI decided to just order the truck from the dealer a couple miles from my housesince the x-plan pricing is all the same and I decided just to sell my suburbanmyself instead of trading it in. The dealI got on the truck I ordered looks like this:
MSRP - $49,840
My Price minus rebates - $43,797 plus TTL
Total drive out price with TTL - $46, 888
I don’t know if this is a great deal, but I was happy withit. The truck is scheduled to bedelivered in mid-July.
So, now to my dilemma. The guy from the other dealer 200 miles away called me yesterday andsaid they ended up ordering the same truck that I wanted (they added a $450 electric locking rear axle) because they figured they could sell it if Iended up not wanting it. I told him Ialready ordered a truck from a local dealer and told him my deal. He said he wanted me to buy from him and thathe was going to email me a better deal. So he just emailed and is willing to sell me the same truck but with theadded electronic locking rear axle for $1700 less than my local dealer. The deal looks like this:
MSRP - $50,310
My price minus rebates - $42,100 plus TTL
Total drive out price with TTL - $45, 028
As you can see, I can get the same truck with the electronicrear axle for about $1800 less on the drive out price. So whatwould you do? I like the idea of havingmy dealer close by, but not $1800 dollars worth. With that money I could add a tonneau coverand other accessories. Should I takethis deal to my local dealer and ask him to match or at least get to within$500? I was not required to put adeposit down, but I almost feel like I should give them something if I walk onthe deal. Let me know what you guysthink. I would especially like a dealer’sperspective on this. I did not go outshopping for a better deal, it just fell into my lap. But I am very torn on how to handlethis.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Also, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading thisboard and have learned a ton about this truck before ever even owning it. This is a good group of folks and highlyinformative and entertaining!

I would tell both dealers whomever gets to $44,000 OTD gets the business. They play games all the time so don't feel bad about playing them back. You're already at $45500 with no negotiating. Play the game and save yourself some money. Don't worry... they will still make a profit on you.
