Hoping to choose a cover this weekend with all the labor sales going on....just torn on what to pick.
Main focus is security and waterproofing. In the bed will mostly be tools and materials. The occasional family trips and groceries and stuff.
I wont be hauling anything majorly big except for when I have projects that need done (lumber/drywall and such). Or when the wife has that we need that now moment!
So I've narrowed it down to a few.......
Diamondback SE with the Line-X coating
Pro: seems pretty darn secure and can haul stuff on top of it
claims to be good at keeping water out
Con: Highest price and the panels are a bit heavier than most at 35lbs
I really like the looks of the low profile hard/tri-folds too. Well not a big fan of drain tubes. Since this is my first time getting a tonneau been doing a lot of reading and i've seen many complaints about them falling apart over time and the large amounts of water getting in the beds. So this has me a bit wary of them.
Here are a few that seem to be good ones that I like the looks of, but just not sure whats better...
BakFlip MX4
Extang Solid Fold 2
Truck Gear FRP (line-x one)
Undercover Elite
Pro: Waterproof, light
Con: One solid piece. Since I don't have a garage...finding someplace to store it when not in use can be a pain. Mainly would have to throw it in the house temporarily.
Sorry for the long winded post! I was hoping maybe typing this out would help me decide what to go for...
Bak Revolver X2. I love mine. Easy install. Best of both worlds between hard folding and soft roll-up. Price is about mid range between them as well. I paid right around $800 for mine.
I had a 3 piece folding Undercover on my 15 Silverado. The darn thing leaked like a sieve when it rained. It let everything on the bed to become wet and somehow dirty too.
Jumped to a 16 F150, and got a roll-up aluminum slats tonneau. Very low profile, and water tight at the front and sides. No drain tubes. But there's a small gap between the tailgate and sides of the bed that may allow some water and dust/dirt in.
I just installed the Pace Edwards switchblade
Took 20 mins to install... All u need is a Phillips screwdriver and a 7/16 wrench
Looks great !!
$650 from eBay
I love my Extang Solid Fold 2.0. No tailgate seal so some water gets in there but the fact that it looks great, sits on top of the side rails, doesn't require drains and can be off in minutes more than offsets that small amount of water thru the tailgate gaps.
Good luck, everyone will have an opinion on a tonneau☺.
Another vote for revolver X2. I love mine, no drain tubes, no water leak in, sits flush, no trifold seems, rolled up blocks half of back window instead of full window blocked like trifolds that sit flush. Had extang solid fold on my last truck and it was ok, but didn't like the look of it sitting on top of rails. Got a Leer 700 colour matched and loved the look of it but it was so not practical. Such a PITA to remove when box of truck actually needed. My buddy had BakFlip VP and loves it. Its a trifold but with no visible seams showing its a trifold. Hate the drain tubes so much. They look so bad when you open tailgate and that's the first thing you see.
So after all that I say Revolver X2.
Just installed Bakflip MX4. Easy install. Fits well. No leak after the first drive in the rain. Got it from Luke, Truck Alteration. Great price. He is a vendor here.
