Default heater defaults to recirculate

Hi, 2016 xlt with a good old manual heater. For some reason, the heater will default to recirculate and a/c every time I start the truck. The occurred before and and after updating sync 3 to 2.2 by dealer. Also, the left screen on the dash defaults to trailer haul mode display. I can change it to anything, turn the truck off and restart and were back at trailer haul mode display....

Maybe they are related. Dealer is confused and believes an SSM for the cluster is warranted.

The heater/AC is going to do that and I have not found any way around it. I have tried.

Trailer tow mode means your truck thinks a trailer is attached. Do you have anything plugged in to the 7 pin or 4 pin trailer connector? Or, have you wired anything directly to the lights of the truck? Either one of those will cause that behavior.

Have you gone in to the trailer tow menu/trailer options menu on the dash and selected "no trailer"?

I went and checked if I can indicate no trailer, but that is not an option. I do have a trailer and use it frequently, so I am not going to delete my settings. Today we don't have the default heater recirculate... go figure. It started when they did the update 2.2 to sync 3. Dealer says they need to do a SSM or something. Even they can't figure it out...

I also have the manual A/C on my 2016. It is normal for the a/c to default to recirc. if the ambient air sensor senses >80°f. Has nothing to do with Sync.

Sorry fellas, I guess I wasn't clear on my IP. I set my temp to medium, have the fan on, no a/c, no recirc. I turn off my F150; start it a day later and it defaults to on recirc and a/c.

You don't need to delete the trailer, just pick the option to disconnect the trailer.

No one is telling you to delete your trailer.

1. In the menu, go to "Towing"
2. Go to "Trailer Options"
3. Go to "Select Trailer"
4. Choose "No Active Trailer"

Done

It automatically selects recirculate if the outside temperature is over 75. Even if you start it below 75 on fresh air when the temperature hits 75 it will switch to recirculate while you're driving. The system works more efficiently on fresh air and cools better. And your manual system is more of a semi auto system. Once it's comfortable to you adjust the temp **** from full cold or full heat and it's pretty good maintaining comfort without constantly messing with it. You still have to control fan speed and air distribution since it's not full auto but it's pretty good modulating temperature automatically.

EDIT: I meant to say it works more efficiently on recirculate not fresh air.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the advice my dealer couldn't provide. The no trailer steps worked great and I understand the temp issue now. Thanks again.

You would THINK that since the truck can detect that there is no trailer attached, it would default at that point to "No Active Trailer," but it doesn't. You have to manually de-select the trailer every time you disconnect.
