So I'm trying to run my wires into the passenger side grommet but I have the heat shield across where the grommet might be. Has anybody ran across this? I have a 17 5.0 lariat. I've tried feeling for a grommet under the carpet the best I could but didn't feel anything within 3" or so of the stud that holds the module down, atleast going towards the big grommet. Hopefully that makes sense. Photos won't upload from phone?

What about the grommet that sits on the same side as a fuse box just above it. ? So your wire will come just above the fuse box on the inside

i ran into the same issues last week when I did my install. In order to see the grommet from the engine compartment and be able to remove it you need to cut or tear the heat shield. You would not be able to see it or feel it from the inside as the carpet it’s on the way. You need to remove the gormmet and then with something sharp push through the carpet, then you would see it coming right above the passanger feet.

it’s tight but I was able to fit my hand and push through with a sharp object. You could lower your mud flap “ inner fender” to make more room. I would be extremely careful if you go through the bigger gormmet since other wires go through it as well.

you could use a long metal wire that is somewhat flexible like a hanger and sharpen one end to push through the hole. Per Bryan’s instructions the guy who started this thread is easier to go through the smaller gormmet. Thrust me is tight but once you remove the heat shield you could easily remove the smaller gormmet and puncture through with a sharp object.

Anyone have tips on depinning the wires on a 2018+? I'm going to tackle this project soon and just looking for tips. I understand depinning but particularly on this connector where would I insert a tool?

The link in Ryan B's first post to Jmeo's pictures shows what you need to do (link). Only advice I would add is to be very careful when bending the plastic pin locks out to remove the pins. They break easily and the pin blocks are impossible to source. Ask me how I know.

The piece you need to bend up is the skinnier piece of plastic directly above the pin you are pulling. You can use a small screw driver or similar object to bend it out of the way. Once that is bent out of the way, pull on the wire to pull the pin out. It doesn’t take much effort so if it’s not coming easily, then something is blocking it. Readjust and try again.
