I've yet to personally see Sync 3 update via Wi-Fi to a newer version although others have posted that theirs has updated. I've reverted to a USB flash drive by downloading the latest update file directly from the Ford Owner website or when our fleet vehicles go to the dealer for service work, I just have the dealer update using IDS.

Have an account there and it won't let me log on. Keep getting this:
System Error
Sorry, we are unable to process your request at this time. Please try again later.
So I have still not ever seen an update by WiFi, but the USB update was quick and easy.
Interesting that I was unable, after the update, to upload the .xml file to Ford (kept getting an error), but after logging out of the Owner site and back in again, it showed my current Sync 3 version as 2.3, updated today...
Slowtrucker, it does sound like your truck might have been trying to update by WiFi, but in any case, you might try the USB update process if your version is earlier than 2.3.
Have you tried calling 1-800-392-3673 for assistance with your account?

I hadn't checked for Sync updates for quite a while, & was still running v 2.0. Since I saw your post and those after, I thought I'd check the Ford Owner site, which said I had an update 4 days ago. Checked the truck and it still showed V 2.0. Rechecked the Owner site which said an update was available... downloaded the 2.3 update from the Owner site, and updated it by USB in less than 10 minutes.

Yeah, that is what I thought. So got with Ford CS and fixed the log in issue - they don't know why it happened, and I don't care it is fixed.
Then started to beat up the SYNC update issue. On a 20MB connection it took 12 minutes to download. Unzipped and moved 1.6 GB to a exfat formatted stick and spent 30 minutes updating to 2.3. Then the real fun began!
Now they are telling me that because I cannot get their system to accept the uploaded xml file the update process writes to the memory stick, I have to do it all over again. So this time I did a slow format of the stick hoping that makes a difference.
Lots of others on the forum have reported errors and frustration trying to update, although many of those were using unofficial update files. But it seems that even more have reported being unable to upload the .xml file to Ford.
I would check under 'Settings' in your truck to see what version of Sync 3 it says is installed. If it reports 2.3 and everything works, I wouldn't worry about the .xml file. As I understand it, the .xml file is only used for history/recordkeeping.
That doesn't sound right, especially after my experience updating today. Even though the web site continually reported failing to receive my .xml file, their records do show that I updated today.

ROFLOL!
Well, I wish I had seen your post before I d/l'ed and installed 2.3 AGAIN! It showed 2.3 installed before the second install but I took the advice I was given by the "specialists". Who knew they only read books?
Anyway NOW it does show as updated on the Ford website.
From discussions with a tech there earlier today, the website is ..uh..less than good would be too charitable. There ARE errors they know about and expect us to know about. I guess we are expected to have taken and passed Mind Reading 101.
