Default Gauge Cluster Issue

Turned the truck on, started it, and the gauge cluster did nothing. It was lit up, but none of the gauges moved and the electronic display was blank. The Sync (radio) screen was also backlit but blank. Turned the truck off then back on and same thing. Turned the truck off, locked the doors and let it sit until all the interior/exterior lights were off, then restarted it and everything worked fine. Been working fine since it happened on Saturday.

Looked for similar posts by people but couldn't find one. Anyone else have this happen? I'm guessing the computer that controls it just freaked out and needed rebooted.

Maybe it was installing an update?

Perhaps, but I really have no idea.

was this an 8 inch cluster? I had something very close to this happen. I lost the cluster and the radio/display. I turned it off and back on and I was greeted with a wrench icon. I then turned it off and opened my door. I ended up waiting about 3 minutes and restarted without any issues. weird but I was hoping it was a fluke due to me plugging in the progressive snap-shot adapter.

I do not have the 8". I also had the wrench until the next time I drove it. Haven't tried to pull a code yet. I did not have anything plugged in to the truck.

To be more specific, I have the "sport" gauge cluster.

The only curious issue I have had is once in awhile when I go to push the button to start it it doesn't start (or do anything). I back off for a second, try again, and sometimes need to try a third time to get it to start. This has only happened a handful of times and I chalked it up to the truck was still booting up.

unless it happens again i would not sweat it, I had the APIM freeze on my truck killing the radio, nav and touch screen. Let the truck sit for a few hours, everything worked fine after that.

It's been fine since, was just curious if it was an anomaly or "a thing". Guessing was just an anomaly.

I would say it just needed the reboot, my guess is turning the key off did nothing as everything still has power (almost like a computer just going in sleep mode, when you open the lid or touch a button it still on the screen you left it at). Opening and closing the door breaks the electrical flow thus shutting the computer completely down, then when you turned the key back on it rebooted.
