Default Fuel Additives

For years I have always used Marvel Mystery Oil or Lucas in all my vehicles. I haven't tried any in my Eco. I am approaching 15,000 miles. What are you guys using if any at all? Does the fuel system Ford is using now even need Fuel system additives? Thanks in advance.

Wondering a little about this too. Keep seeing this commercial for some product that cleans your injectors apparently...doesn't mention turbo'd engines and I know things are a little different.

I believe if you use a tier 1 gasoline, you don't need additional additives.

Read your owner's manual. It tells you.

Definitely run a top tier gasoline. Here's the list of brands that has the additives to meet the requirements.

The only additive I run is Chevron Techron in my equipment.

Of course the manual says this and that. But sometimes you have to make your own judgment call.

I run fuel treatment in practically every motor I have. Small motors I run Seafoam. Outboards I use Seafoam for cleaning and Startron/Marine stabil for stabilizing. For bigger motors like vehicles, I've always used Techron.

Always use top tier gas. If you feel the need to add some type of cleaning additive because your motor is running rough or it's in your mind to do it then just do it. Most additives are < $10. Many people say it's a waste of money. I could tell yall this, MANY people waste (or just want to spend) money on all types of things. Lifting trucks and don't go off-road? Is that a waste to yall? In my mind, no. It's cause they WANTED it and people could do whatever the flipping hell they want. So bottom line, if you WANT to do it, then by all means just do it.

Nuff said...

When you have a vehicle with tons of miles
I feel it's a bad idea to add injector cleaner
Case in point my 1994 Jag has 54,000 miles is a garage queen
Well added some Gum Out to one tank of gas.
About two weeks later and about 100 miles when starting after overnight
Lots of white smoke
Must have cleaned out the fuel system and the crap was in the Fuel Injectors
Causing dripping
Replaced 6 injectors and Fuel filter all is well now.

Well now that would be my question, Does a direct injected engine need any type of additive? does it help? I went with the thought of no, HOWEVER they do get the pcv sludge dumped into the intake tract. What's the process for cleaning that? My paranoia on that (because of a VW that lost it's top end at 40k) led me to spend like 1k on stuff that most would consider questionable. I added the UPR dual catch can at about 10k, Any difference? dump some oily goop out at every oil change. other than that, don't see anything. Next step on the paranoia Wagon, gotta have something to clean those intake runners and valves. Added Snow performance ecoboost Methanol system. Does it clean the intake? Now that I'm using it I Don't care Cause it goes like hell fast. Don't know what the hp add is But It will run with the Wife's Hemi Challenger on the interstate, Embarrassed her so much she traded cars.

The number of people that choose not to read their owners manual after spending $30k+, and often $50k+, on their truck is beyond me. Additionally by reading the owners manual the OP would likely find other information that would be useful.

I didnt realize Costco and Exxon were top tier. I thought they were like Rotton Robby gas.

I run 89 octane 76 gas for my truck when im not towing and 91 when I am. My truck has 20K miles on it with no issues with the motor.

My bass boat gets Union 76 91 octane all the time and have 400 hours on the motor. It runs like a top. It hits 70mph with two guys and a full tournament load of gear.

I dont use any additive in my truck at all. My 2001 GM Yukon had a 5.3 with 200K miles on it. Never used a drop of additive in it.

They only additive I do use is on my boat at winter time when I rarely use it and thats Staybil. I use it for the Alcohol in our gas here. Im in the SF Bay Area and we have the crappy Cal Gas here.
