Default FORScan not recognizing H8 battery code

Recently upgraded my 2019 5.0L to an AGM H8 battery. Reset and changed battery code to 03 which seems to be the consensus on the forum.

I am not sure the sure if FORScan does not recognize the 3 code or if the truck is not recognizing it. Should I ignore or change battery code?

Not to say you can’t run an H8 battery, but even using the “hard way”, I do not see the value to change for an AGM H8 battery. Maybe someone else has a better battery value sheet than I do.

Keep in mind that most of the batteries on the FORScan battery type list are for Europe and the BMS programming appears to be different for North America. My research has the value '03' for North American vehicles is for BAGM-49H8-85 140RC 850CCA.

Smile Response to replies re: FORScan not recognizing Group 49 H8 AGM battery

Thank you both for replying. The original battery in my Canadian truck is the BAGM-48H6-760. The reasons for going with a 49 group battery (BAGM-49H8-900):
  • The original battery (which lasted just 4 years - I know 3-5 is to be expected) did not supply sufficient cold cranking amps in prolonged severe cold weather (-30 to -35) where I had no power to plug in a block heater or battery blanket;
  • For a few dollars more than the 94 group (H7), the 49 group (H8) battery supplied 900 CCA (50 more more than the 94 group (H7) battery), had 95 Ah and 160 RC ratings, and it fit the battery box perfectly.
  • Heavier amperage draw due to trailer lights at idle or with engine off.
Threads somewhere on this forum indicated that the code 03 was used for the group 49 (H8) battery supplied with the diesel engine, and noted that the 03 indicated in the spreadsheet is "unconfirmed" as the value for 70Ah 600 CCA H6 battery.

I have searched everywhere, but have not been able to find absolute confirmation that battery code 03 is the right one for the group 49 AGM battery whether it is 850 or 900 CCA. I will also now use a smart charger/battery maintainer AGM compatible for the 14.8 V charging voltage to keep the battery at or near full charge, which should help longevity according to my AGM battery research.

52 Merc, thanks for confirming your research - did you find anything outside of this forum to support the 03 value? if so, can you point me to it? thanks, Eric.

Interesting enough, this battery type code list for the Explorer (https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic....13897&start=10) indicates the 49 Group H8 battery as "03". Perhaps whatever generates the Battery PID's on my truck has an error by showing the "incorrect value" which I captured in the screencap above...

That screen is not the options available to your truck. It is the battery list that FORScan developed for European vehicles as that is where they are based. Ford NA factories only uses Motorcraft batteries. EU factories use Varta or Exide, hence the list they have programmed. Just manually write the 03 to the appropriate PID and don't forget to let FORScan determine the check bytes (the last 2 characters in the PID string).

Coding on m 2019 with a factory AGM H8 battery (BAGM-49H8-850) is 0301 0000 093F
