Default FORScan Experts...A proposal

There are some on this forum that either do not wish to invest the time or do not possess the technical abilities to perform these modifications.

I was just wondering if there would be experienced members that would be willing to perform these tasks for a fee if someone lived close by and wanted some tweaks in their software. If we had a thread that had folks listed by regions then the individual members could set things up via PM.

Just a thought, members helping members!

There was a discussion on this topic in one of the Forscan threads. The LIABILITY in doing this is huge. You're changing the truck's programming. Something happens, the owner, Ford, maybe even law enforcement (if an accident occurred) can come after you.

IMHO, those doing it for free for other owners should make them sign a release, stating that it's being done for no fee as a courtesy and that the owner accepts all responsibility.

Remember that if you charge a fee for a service, your liability is deep - your assets, possibly your home, etc.

Exactly this. There are pages of threads both here and on other websites/forums throughout the internet showing how to use Forscan and the tools required. There is no reason that someone shouldn't be able to figure out how to use it themselves. If you want the modifications, take the time to learn how to do it yourself.

A great idea for those that just want a few things changed, like double-honk, gloabal windows etc. However personally for me, if anyone in my area asked that of me I would not accept any money for it. It would open up a big can of worms for liability, warranty of what was done, etc. What I learned from using FORScan came from others here that have spent countless hours of their time to find out these things for the good of the forum community, and I can't claim credit for it and profit from it. To do this for other members here would be my way of paying it forward. That said, I am not implying that anyone who does choose to do this for money is wrong. That's just my take.

I hear what your saying, this litigious society we all live in now did not occur to me since I don't think that way. Thanks for your comments.

The things you can do with Forscan, how easy it is, the great help that is available on the thread and investing the little money needed for a tool that you can use over and over again for years to come.

Makes asking someone else to stick their neck out for you,,,,, a not very nice idea.

Is my view,, while I do promote everyone taking advantage of the things we can do, and more than willing to advise... I wouldn't feel right about doing this to someone else's truck...

What about loaning the equipment to someone local to make changes themselves?
