Default ForScan

Is ForScan useful on a 2016 non navigation screen XLT with the 3.5 engine ? It’s a rubber mat low base truck my brother just bought.

Depends what you want to add to it or enable. Many OEM features can be added and enabled, although many of those upgrades require the hardware to be added as well.

For example, you can enable the electronic trailer brake with FORScan, but you'd obviously need the assembly that goes in the cubby hole. The wiring should already be there for it.

I agree with tland4. Depends on what you want to do. Might suggest looking at Livnitup's FORScan spreadsheet and see if you want to make any changes. A couple that come to mind are:
Fog lights remembered
Lane Change flasher set to 4 or 5 (instead of 3)
Power point timeout change
Not sure if you have A.S.S (Auto stop start) but can disable that and remove from the IPC menu

By the way, the FORScan spreadsheet can be found under the FORScan sticky, read the 1st post (has a link to the tutorial) and it will have all the relevant information for FORScan. The tutorial will lead you to the spreadsheet.

If nothing else FORScan is a very good diagnostic tool. It will read all of the modules in your truck which most of the cheaper code readers will not. You can initiate module resets and self-tests of some of the modules. You can data log and monitor functionality of many of the sensors, control and switches in the truck.

Thanks. I’ve used it on my own truck a 501A lariat but he only has that small screen in the dash and not many options like me. I believe he has the trailer backup assist and controller. I’ll have to hook up to it and see what comes about. Thanks again.

I’ve got an even more basic XL with the STX package.
Forscan changes I’ve done:
1. Seat belt minders off.
2. annoying startup chime off.
3. Bambi mode, fogs with highs.
4. Cornering mode, fog with turn signal
5. “Global windows” fronts controlled with remote.
6. Hill decent mode. Required new switch.
7. Forscan will work but used engineering mode on dash to bias the mpg meter.
