2015+ Frozen door latch TSB/ Recall
#682
I have a 2017 with the same issue. Took it in to the dealership and they said my truck isn't apart of the TSB. I've resorted to leaving my doors unlocked during freezing temps, although I don't like the idea of leaving the doors unlocked its the only way to insure I can get in to my truck when I need to go somewhere!

my truck is garaged but I had this happened on a over night trip.
door opened fine, but would not latch. I ended up locking the door and the latch caught, then used the inside handle to open the door from the passenger side. didn't have the issue after that, just ran to the store a few minutes down the road, and haven't had a problem since.
I haven't contacted Ford because it wasn't repeatable.

So I've had my locks freeze on me a few times this winter..... extremely frustrating. My concern is lets say the rear passenger door is frozen, my kids get in from the drivers side rear door.. So I don't ever want this to happen but lets say we're in an accident, all the doors are damaged to the point that they won't open.... there's an engine fire and the only door that isn't damaged is the one with a frozen lock, but wait it won't open because its frozen.....
At this point is this not a safety hazard and made in to a recall?

Or even worse. What is your child closes the door but it doesn't actually latch on properly and you don't notice. Then you take a turn a little too sharp, and the door swings open and your kid goes flying out and lands into the oncoming traffic lane. You frantically try to get out, but you can't, the driver side door lock is frozen.
As you make your way over the center console in an attempt to exit your vehicle from the rear driver side door, you watch in horror as your kid gets run over by a Honda Ridgeline.

Please if you are looking at an F150 4x4 and intend on using below freezing; just know you have a 50% chance of having locks and latches that won't be reliable. Not in extreme weather just any old day a few degrees below 30 and you will be lucky to get your latches to work! The great part is Ford doesn't seem to care. It has only been this way since 2015 and it is still true Today. If you have the latest truck or have had recall or TSB done they say oh sorry we don't have a solution!!
Sadly it won't then repeat on demand at dealer either. I will be back on the phones and probably on to the Lemon Law process. I have fought this too long and it is obvious they won't fix it anytime soon. Ford you are a total failure in your professionalism and your lack of concern for Safety.
Here is what you will end up doing when it fails. It is so nice to bungee cord doors together to drive home!! Do you think this is a safe way to drive a car home? Keep in mind this will only happen when freezing some of the most dangerous conditions you can drive with. If it is your drivers door that means you will continually get the Auto unlock for the rest of the doors. You will have cold air and wind noises. Warnings when you stop that car isn't in park (door open), chimes when you drive door is ajar... Gee I know door is ajar Ford how do I get it to lock? Sometimes it will be hold door closed and lock it and it might Lock. For me nope not having any of that!!
Here are the pictures of the Newest locks and latches...such a modern marvel!! Thanks Ford you know I would always buy another vehicle from you ..... NEVER EVER.... 2015 2016 2017 2018 and you still cannot even car to fix. Please just start making 2wd Trucks.

How many threads are you going to post the same rant? Everyone is aware of the issue you are having but you are not doing any public service by creating new threads on a topic that already has been given the highest visibility via a Sticky. If you have something new and constructive to say, please post it there.
Not everyone is aware . . at least not sufficiently aware . . . including Ford Motor Company.

Also, my understanding of the issue is that there are two conditions: 1. Door will not latch. 2. Door will not unlock with the key fob or electronic button inside but will unlock pulling up the little ****/button (back doors) or by pulling the door handle from the inside.
The problem in the second case is that the electric actuator is too weak.
His scenario is not possible.
