Default FordPass Question

Hello all! I recently purchased a 2018 XLT used with Sync 3, when I use the FordPass app I occasionally see info like Oil Life, Fuel level, Miles, etc... but I dont see the option to lock/unlock doors or remote start. Is there something special I need to do in order to get that to show up? Thanks!!

You have Sync 3 but do you have Sync Connect (now called Fordpass Connect)?

If you paired your phone to your truck and use Applink then you can still get oil life, etc. But you need Fordpass/Sync connect (it is a cellular modem built into the truck) to do command and control (remote start, lock/unlock, etc).

This should help: https://owner.ford.com/support/how-t...-fordpass.html

Thanks for the quick reply, I think you're right that I am probably missing the cellular modem. Is there any way to check for that hardware to be sure?

You MUSt have an applicable model smart phone or an Ipad V10.0 or later software to obtain Fordpass. Then it's all there.

I can't give you exact direction without being in my truck, but if you go into the settings on Sync 3 under one of the main sections should be the option to set up Wifi Hotspot and that, another area where it shows "About Sync 3" where it shows version info and that should give your Modem ESIN, those are all pretty solid clues that you have it.

I suspect you don't have it though, as when you add the VIN of your truck to Ford Pass it automatically tries to pair with the truck if it has a modem, and then you need to approve it in Sync 3. If you don't see something in Ford Pass asking you to send activation request, something like that, you likely don't have one. Only reason you still might is if the dealer didn't reset Sync to factory settings and the old owner still has their access configured, which would be potentially dangerous.

When we traded in our C-Max Energi I was able to track the movements of the car as it went to auction, was sold, then transported to a dealership in Ohio. I remotely reset the HU to factory settings as I didn't actually have any interest in potentially spying on a future owner, just was a rare chance to see the life of a vehicle after turning in a lease. But it did highlight that if YOU don't reset that stuff, don't count on the dealer to do it for you, and a previous owner could continue to have access to your vehicle location and unlock capabilities.

Easiest way is to look at the roof of your truck. If you have the round "flat" antenna you do not have Sync Connect. If you have the "shark fin" then you have it.

I thought the shark fin was for the Wi-Fi hot spot. I have the Sync Connect on my 2017 with the flat antenna

The sharkfin can have both antennas. I just bought one, it has two antenna cables, one for the hotspot and one for the satellite.

Pretty sure you need the cellular antenna inside the shark fin to access ATT’s network. That’s who Ford uses to transmit the info via SyncConnect whether you buy a Wi-Fi package or not.

if your phone is connected via cable to the USB port, you will get mileage, fuel level, oil change interval etc. The minute you unplug the cable you will lose it.
