Default Fog lights, Do they work?

I have a 2016 F150 Lariat and notice that the Front Fog lights barely put off any light. I was going to do the Bambi mode but have now decided not to as there is no more light available using the Fog lights anyway.

When I say they don't put off any light I mean, facing a wall about 10 feet away and turn them on you cannot even see the beams on the wall. Yes there is some light but it sure does not light up the road and become usable.

Is this just the way the Fog lamps on these trucks are, more for looks than function or does it sound like something is amuck? When I get out I can see that the lights are turned on but they just don't seem to do anything.

Anxious to hear what you think of your Fog lights.

Marc

Are they dirty? Mine are definitely brighter than that (with stock bulbs, even brighter now). Many people with factory led headlight swap the fog lights out with led's to match (usually Morimoto's or factory F250 lights). I have halogen lights and changed the bulbs in mine according to this https://www.f150forum.com/f118/easy-...ht-mod-313120/

Fog lights are supposed to be flat and WIDE beams, so they should not be visible as you are thinking.

Driving lights are narrow and straight. They should be visible as beams on a wall 10' away.

Your fog lights are working exactly as designed.

Mine are as bright as the stock headlights. Have you turned on the lights and got out and looked at them?

Like me 07 f150 the foglamps seem to light the area immediately in front of the truck and the left and right just beyond the nose. Not really down the road.

Thanks for the replies. No they are not dirty, Maybe I am expecting driving light brightness out of FOG lights, Maybe I need to replace them with LED lights like the low and high beam in order to get the brightness I expect.

The headlights and fog lights on my new 17 F-150 are the worst I've experienced in owning many different Ford products and a few Mazda's. They are absolutely atrocious!

Exactly right. Which begs the question.... why the hell do people drive around all the time with their fog lights on? I think it's a "look at me, my new vehicle has fog lights" attitude.

Anything that helps me see at night I'm all for. Especially since the stock headlights are absolutely pitiful.

A-freakin-men.

Just be glad most NA vehicles don't have a rear fog light (like Volvos and MBs) since those same drivers love to drive with it on (or just didn't read their owners manual, saw a button with a light icon on it, and pressed it because more lights are better).

I can't speak for everyone else but the more lights on up front the easier it is for others to see you in fog, dusk, dawn or night time. For me it's all about safety.
