I posted the mothballs solution, which we employed after a chipmunk (we think) started eating the non-soy-based wiring of my son's '99 Grand Marquis.

" ****ty dealer wouldnt even give us a ride back to the camp grounds"
The dealer I worked for would have been livid if the service writer had of told that to a customer, probably would have sent him down the highway kicking stones .

Sad, evidently this dealer has more business than he needs. I remember years ago we were on a trip in our new Plymouth Mini Van. Once we got to Carolina's, we noticed an oil leak. I went to the nearest dealer at about 3 in the after noon.
Told him the sob story, on vacation and new van .....blah blah, he took the van and had a new oil pan and seal on within an hour!
No it was not wrong of you to simply request a ride, a decent dealer would have assisted you! IMO!

None of us were there, so it's hard to comment on anything but the net - yes, it would have been nice for a dealer to drive you 7 miles to your campsite.
Last year my son was driving his grandfather's '99 Grand Marquis (grandfather in assisted living). Would not start. Towed and turned out to be a bad starter. Dealer repaired, and for a different reason towing company offered us a free tow anytime we needed it. Dealer not local to us, too far away to ever use them.
Less than 2 weeks later, driving car in pouring rainstorm to pick up my aged in-laws and take them to visit his sister on her deathbed (wheelchair would not fit in Fusion, they could not climb in truck), and it started to die on the highway. Pulled off, died in Costco parking lot. Called tow company for free tow, no problem, on the way. Called dealer, explained circumstances, and that the car had just been repaired by them. Within 10 minutes they called back, two cars on the way to us. One for us, one to ferry employees back. They pulled in with a nearly new Ford Flex (big enough for everyone and the wheelchairs), had us sign and told us to go. They then waiting for the tow truck.
Got in-laws to the visit, returned car when repair was done. Turned out to be alternator, which the mechanic should have caught (but the dealership did not know that at the time). Dealership said "no charge, we were glad to help out."
All depends on the dealership, the situation, whether they have vehicles available (of course ANY salesperson could have driven the OP to his campsite), etc. Point is, people are people.

Now that is a decent dealership Rick! I have been to a Dealer down in Florida, somewhere around Lakeland, I think it may have been Bartow. They were too busy to bother with opening a request to document an issue. Not like I was asking to have them repair it, just to have a record of the issue for when I got home to my dealership. They had mechs standing around bs'ing with each other.

I do hope everything works out and you guys are able to enjoy your trip as much as possible and not let this be a gray cloud hanging over the overall getaway.

You are correct, it would have been very nice of the guy to help out a fellow human. I don't think it necessarily reflects on the dealership, as we don't know his situation on that day and maybe he is great guy but could have been dealing with his own issues....or he's jerk...but we don't know. Again, not necessarily a reflection on the dealership.

Its absolutely a reflection, a bad reflection, on the dealership! The SW knew the customer was from somewhere else, knew he had no other means of transportation and did nothing! He did all of this in his role as the representative, the customer was dealing with, for the dealership. He got paid for and during that transaction as an employee. Therefor, IMO, his actions represent the dealer! Had he helped, would this not have then been considered a great dealership? I thought so!
