First Oil Change at the Dealer, need opinions
Ok everyone, I'll preface this question by stating that I do all of my oil changes at home by myself. I do not like others doing routine maintenance and chores on my vehicle...
That being said, when I purchased my truck new in March, the dealer told me they would give me a free oil change at 5k miles or 3 months. I've just crossed 5k. I had a phone call from someone in the service group a few days ago asking when I was bringing the truck in for them to change the oil and check everything over to make sure everything looked "right."
Did anyone else do this? Do I reeeeally need to take my truck in for them to glance over and make sure all is well?
I don't like the idea of someone changing the oil, especially after hearing the horror stories of dealers not fully draining the 2.7 EB oil due to the extended time. But I also don't want to set myself up for some headaches later by not catching something that may need some TLC.
Thanks for your input,

The inspection you're referring to is something included in the "works" package. It's the standard oil change, tire rotation, and inspection that they always do. Not necessary, but shouldn't hurt.
I'm the same as you as far as other people working on my truck. I took mine in at 5k miles for my free oil change and it was all good. Just check your oil level after they're done to make sure they didn't overfill or anything and you should be good to go.

My choice is to always have the oil changed at the dealer as long as I have a warranty in place. If there are other issues down the road, there will be no question that the truck has been properly serviced. At my dealer, there are big windows between the waiting area and the oil change bays. I normally pull up a bar stool and watch. 35,000 miles later, no issues with the service. Cost is not really a factor either. They normally have a $39.99 special for the works package. Can't hardly buy the oil and filter for that.

No idea if you guy & gals in the US have this (I am sure you do), but here in Canada we have the option of purchasing a Maintenance Plan. For $2,100 I get 200,000 kms (125,000 mi) or 7yrs of "free" oil changes, all fluids, tire rotations, 3 free brake jobs with brakes included, wiper changes every visit...yaddie yaddie yaddie.
I added it all up and it would cost me in the $4,000 range for the service I get.
Like you, I don't like others tinkering with my truck, but while it's under warranty, I have no problem pointing the finger at my dealer and saying "it wasn't like that when it come in here and it ain't leaving till it's fixed".
just my $0.02
Worth nuthin, because it's Canadian funds

Like everyone else said, take the truck in for it's free change! I don't mind using the dealer for oil changes because there can't be any arguments for warranty issues. I keep all my receipts and I developed a good working relationship with one of the SAs. Oil change at my dealer for my 2.7 is $44.00, not bad! The "works" service is $88.00 tax in.

I wouldn't pass up a free change, but I also wouldn't worry about any arguments if I chose to do my own service.
