Fender Emblems

I'm looking to take off my side fender emblems to paint. What are you guys doing about the double side tape when you put them back on?

I just use the clips, and leave the tape backing alone. I've done 3 trucks, and never lost one yet, same with the ovals.

Take the tape off with a razor blade, remove the remaining residue with naptha (lighter fluid), and replace it with new 3M VHB tape that you can buy at most auto parts stores and Walmart.
