Fault codes.
If the computer throws a code and lites the check engine lite does it store the code so someone with a scanner can read it? What if the lite goes out does the comp erase the code that was thrown?
The reason I ask is my sis in law with a 2013 escape had her check lite come on and she made an appointment to have it checked. The lite went out before her appointment but she went into ford anyways. Ford service writer said the lites out and there is no way to know why it came on and the car doesn't store the codes thrown.
I call BS as my 98 LS1 powered Z28 with OBDII stored all codes thrown until they were cleared by a scanner.

This is why I bought a scanner. My car sometimes stores codes, sometimes doesn't. Dealers give the runaround for everything. I've had various other responses from other cars over the years. The machines are as cheap as $15, now.
