False warnings with the collision warning function on 2015 F150
Hey guys, I had a really strange and repeatable problem with my collision detection. Today I was in the middle lane doing 70 with no cars on either side of me. I approached an underpass and as soon as I hit the shadow the warning lights and sound comes on. Is this normal? The same two underpasses and this thing goes off.
Anyone else experience anything strange like this?

So yes others seem to have the same problem since the collision warning and the ACC both use the radar. It's odd that shadows affect the radar though. Doesn't really make sense.
I can't find the thread though.
2015-2016 F-150 - Adaptive Cruise Control - Collision Warning Malfunction And/Or Adaptive Cruise Malfunction Message - With DTCs B142E And/Or U3000
Some 2015-2016 F-150 vehicles equipped with adaptive cruise control may exhibit a collision warning malfunction and/or adaptive cruise malfunction message in the instrument cluster message center with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) B142E:78 and/or U3000:49 in the cruise control module (CCM). To correct this condition, update the CCM to the latest calibration level using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) version 101.03 or higher. Refer to workshop manual (WSM) section 419-03B to perform the cruise control radar alignment procedure. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates

I remember a thread talking about the adaptive cruise control dynamiting the brakes due to shadows at overpasses too. I believe that was pre-recall for reprogramming the ACC though.

I had this happen a time or two on my previous Mazda and have seen it also on our Surburban when there is a shadow from an overpass or the like. In the Surburban the collision detection is only camera bars I believe as it does not have adaptive cruise. The Mazda has adaptive cruise but I stil thought collision warning was camera and not laser based but may be wrong

I had false warnings from the collision system when ducking down a hard left, downhill back road near my house. The thing was picking up the tree line near the road, I think. I set the sensitivity down a notch and problem solved.
I'm not wild about the collision warning system anyway. My wife's BMW actually applies the brakes. Wish my truck did the same thing.
