Default Fake engine noise/turbo "gasp"

Hello,

I had the fake engine noise turned off on my 2015 Lariat 3.5 EB last week. While driving home I noticed a distinct "gasp" coming from the engine compartment when lifting off the gas during moderate acceleration. The harder the acceleration the louder the noise.

The dealer tells me it is normal waste gate pressure relief noise, but I'm not buying it right now, as my 2011 EB did not do this, nor have other turbo charged vehicles I have owned.

So am wondering if anyone else has noticed this sound? And it makes me think the fake engine noise was there for a real reason!

Thanks

Dun... Dont worry ALL turbo vehicles have to do it, its a pressure release so that your turbine doesnt slow down... Google what does a "blow off valve do" its similar to what our trucks have.

How do you like your truck with the engine note gone?

How loud is it? There is a house that teams from the blow off valve back to the intake system to keep those pressure releases quiet, but done on here have intentionally removed them and the blow off is very noticeable. If it's slight it's probably normal for the twin turbo, if it's obnoxious check the hoses. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the replies.

The noise is very distinctive and is borderline obnoxious (I'm old and like my cars and bikes to be quiet). My 2011 EB (which I still have so was able to confirm) makes NO noise upon throttle release.

I think there is a problem here and will pursue a fix with the dealer, was just wondering if anyone else has this symptom.

My 13 ecoboost does this just like every other one on the road. It's pressure release like someone else mentioned. I have my blow off valve modified to be louder as well.

I know exactaly what your taking about. The relief valve on the 15s is much more prevalent than on the prior gen. The same can be said about general turbo spool. It sounds much louder aswell. Personally I like it. I don't know what type of valve these trucks have. Our Audi has a diverter valve. Quieter but serve a slightly different function then a blow off valve.

So you turned off the fake engine noise. And now you don't like the real engine noise. Turbocharged motors have blow-off valves. That's the sound you are hearing. It's 100% normal.

Sounds like you can't be pleased.

If you open your window, stick your head out, and go "vroom, vroom", does it seem better?

Turn back on the V8 sound.
