Failing miserably at Painting F150 side panel emblems
So, I initially Plasti-dipped my emblems and they look great. I like the color and texture of it for the F150 side emblems..
I then took it to the car wash and once through the car wash, one side started peeling a little, which is annoying..
So I purchased 3 emblems on Ebay, 1 for testing and 2 for use.
I tried rustoleum matte black with a spray primer underneath. It came out horribly.
As you can see it looks like green.. Absolutely terrible... So then I tried another one with flat black and it looks not good either..
What is the best way to paint the side emblems. I bought another set on eBay to practice with to make sure I have the exact match I want prior to going on the truck.
Is scratchwizard spray paint with my color an idea.
BTW, my color is tuxedo black - UH

Was it a brushless car wash ?
I ran mine through a brushless this weekend to test some wax and my plasti dip emblems had no issue.

Worst hairday ever...
I have plasti-dipped quite a bit on my old Ranger, fender flares, front bumper, bug shield and wheels. No problems going through touchless or cloth washes all winter long in two years. I clean parts with 90% iso alcohol before spraying.

Plastidip usually works fine, but if you want to paint them with real paint I recommend:
- Remove them (or buy new ones).
- Clean them thoroughly with soap and water, dry completely.
- Spray them with Bulldog Adhesion Promoter (or equivalent).
- Paint them with SEM black trim paint (or equivalent), at least four coats.
- Re-install.

I usually put on 5-6 coats first 2 are pretty thin, the rest I put on thick almost to the point of getting drips. it peels off better when it's thicker.

I don't know how many passes. I try to hit all of the part at different angles until it looks like the part is well covered. Too much will give puddling or drips but plastidip is rather forgiving.
