Default factory sub...blown?

In my '15 Platinum I have an all stock system. The bass has always been horrible, so I'm looking for another solution and have found several that I think will work. While looking around, I thought I'd check the ohm load on the factory sub. There are four wires coming in, and each pair reads around 50 Ohms! Is this a DVC setup? are these just signal wires to an amp inside the box? What the...? Is the sub just blown?

Which brings me to another question. Can I use these signal wires to another amp and sub? It seems like in the old days you couldn't use the signal wires from another amp and get good sound, unless there was an RCA preout (or pass thru). Can I run these to a converter to get RCA level?

I'm sure there are several threads on this, but my searches didn't bring up anything helpful for my scenario.

The wires going to the sub just go to the speaker. I have no idea if you can take those wires to an amp as a source. I too would like to know if you can, cause I would like to get a better sub.

Check out my build thread, you can use those wires as a sub input.

https://www.f150forum.com/f78/tareed...62433/index48/

I'm running an Alpine MRV-M500 amp that accepts high level speaker inputs, and uses them as the remote turn on. I ran 4 gauge OFC wire from the battery to the fuse block, then under the truck, through a cab vent, and to the amp that is velcroed to the back wall. 4 gauge OFC ground wire, 16 gauge OFC wiring to the box, and then I'm running a 10" Pioneer shallow mount sub. Ran the optional bass **** down the driver's side, and mounted it under the dash above the gas pedal. It sounds great! Fair warning, you WILL need to keep the Sony "amp" as it is a processor for a lot of things in your stereo.

Thanks for the input! i'm not sure why they waste the expense on these subs, they're not functional at all.

I have a question about the bass on these trucks. I had a 15 and it was never good in my opinion. I now have an 18 and it is a big improvement.

I have noticed something similar in both trucks. The bass is not a strong as most of us want on most songs. BUT there are a couple of songs on my iPod out of the 500 plus that will rattle the whole truck. Two are old Beatles songs. Come together and The Ballad of John and Yoko. These two like I said have excessive bass and the whole truck rattles. The third is a rap song and If I play rap or hip hop over Sirius it also gives a good amount of bass. Is the music itself programmed differently? These songs show what the system is capable of. It seems like most music has the bass filtered out to some degree. My 2013 Sont system was superior to both of these and had far better bass with the under seat sub. I have heard the SYNC 3, 3.0 update actually improves the older trucks sound system. It seems to me who knows nothing about this that the system has programming that can be set to change the processing of the music. Am I nuts?

Certainly a possibility, but normallyl you'd notice a degraded signal in bluetooth or Aux devices rather than direct feed (satellite, CD, etc).
