Default Factory installed inactive remote start????

@redbroncokid I saw some posts you made about this. Is it true??
I was just reading on a few threads and reddit that my truck might have remote start but it is just not active??? I have a 2017 F150 XLT. If I use FORScan and activate it is there a way to test it before I go and buy the antenna and 4 button key fobs? If it does work which key fob would it be? I have flip key fob so I’m thinking it would be that one. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Anybody else have any thoughts on this??

Before you spend any money, try the FordPass app and see if that works for you. My 2019 XLT doesn't have remote start on the window sticker, but I can lock/unlock and remote start it from my iPhone with the FordPass app at my home if the truck is connected to my WiFi.

If it had remote start it would have came with the 4 button fobs. When I ordered my 2017 and 2020 I had to check the box for the remote start option and it was a $195 option.

I read something once that every F-150 is wired for the remote start module. that to add remote start all you would ned to do was purchase the module, plug it in and activate it on Forscan. As for the FOB you would need, I am not sure, IIRC i read that you would hit the lock button and then hold the lock button, but that may be completely false. GOod luck and let me know. Remote Start and the keyless entry pad are the two things I really want on my F-150.

My 2019 STX only needed the Perimeter Plus module and two lines of Forscan changes. Took all of about 15 minutes. The module was $160 I believe. On a friend's 2019 STX he had remote start from the beginning, but his window sticker called out Perimeter Plus as a $195 add on option.

Interesting. I have no capability for that. I have the FordPass App, but no options for lock/unlock. Weird. Although mine is just an STX....you probably have an XLT or above.

I don't know if the 2017 had the sync connect option to allow the app starting. But there is a long thread here on adding the tcu to GAO that ability

So this mornings before work this after I went out to the truck and updated the IPC and BCM for remote start. The remote start settings show up in the IP now. It did not give me an error. I do not have a 4 button remote to test and see if it works but the normal lock unlock lock did nothing. May by a 4 button fob just to see if it does work. If I didn’t have it wouldn’t it have thrown DTCs and errors on the cluster?

No, not necessarily. I only have lock and unlock (and panic) on my fob. First time I tried mine after install I had the settings in the instrument cluster but it wouldn’t start. I went back about an hour later and checked my Forscan entries and discovered a mistake. Once I fixed my entry error it started right up....lock unlock lock.

Never had any error messages in the dash.

It won't work. You'll need the module. The remote start FOB works on different frequencies and won't work at all for you.
