Factory Keycode Retrieval

The factory keycode for the keyless entry keypad can be retrieved from a label on the BCM, a wallet card in the
Owner's Literature, using a diagnostic scan tool, or by using 2 programmed keys.

To retrieve the factory keycode using 2 programmed keys, carry out the following steps within 10 seconds:
  • Place the first programmed key into the ignition lock cylinder or backup starting location and turn the ignition on.
  • Turn the ignition off and remove the first programmed key.
  • Place the second programmed key into the ignition lock cylinder or backup location and turn the ignition on.
NOTE: Any warning messages that may be present are displayed in the message center prior to the keycode being displayed.

The factory keycode displays momentarily in the message center.

The factory code is displayed on a label attached to the backside of the BCM.

From the Owner's Manual

Programming a Personal Entry Code

To create your own personal entry code:
1. Enter the factory-set code.
2. Press 1·2 on the keypad within five seconds.
3. Enter your personal five-digit code. You must enter each number within five seconds of each other.
4. Press 1·2 on the keypad to save personal code one.

The doors will lock then unlock to confirm that programming was successful.

To program additional personal entry codes, repeat Steps 1-3, then for Step 4:
• Press 3·4 to save personal code two.
• Press 5·6 to save personal code three.
• Press 7·8 to save personal code four.
• Press 9·0 to save personal code five.
Tips:
• Do not set a code that uses five of the same number.
• Do not use five numbers in sequential order.
• The factory-set code will work even if you have set your own personal code.

Erasing a Personal Code

1. Enter the factory-set five-digit code.
2. Press and release 1·2 on the keypad within five seconds.
3. Press and hold 1·2 for two seconds. This must be done within five seconds of completing Step 2.

All personal codes erase and only the factory-set five-digit code will work.

Once I retrieved the factory code then I could set the 5 digit code that I wanted. This may be old news but it wasn't to me. I thought it might help somebody else.
Video (two keys) does not work on 2020. ONLY through the "settings" aspect on the HU.

why would anyone use this feature. I e never understood this. With a key and a remote, why try to remeber another password in life and then stand outside your vehicle and type it in? Walking to the vehicle, unlock it and get it and go. Much more efficient.

However, there must be real world use cases out there. Please share…

I won't buy a vehicle without that feature. Very handy.

When I'm around the house and especially working in my garage, I usually don't carry my keys (and fob) or even my cell phone. The keypad allows me to get into my truck and open the tailgate anytime I want. I use the keypad about once a week.

I have Push Button Start so I can't just leave the tailgate unlocked. Fob or keypad are the only ways to get into the bed of the truck.

When you and your spouse are sharing one key for something (motel, forgotten/lost house key, etc) you lock the one key in the truck if each is on their separate ways. Upon return, use keypad to get the key. Happens lots.

I use the keypad daily. Often leaving my keys in the truck when I'm in the gym or even at work (I park in a secure garage). Just so much easier than hauling my keys and FOB. I read somewhere that Ford was going to stop the keypad as standard equipment and it will only be a dealer installed option for $500. Anyone know if that's still Ford's plan?

For me its really convenient when I go surfing, boating, kayaking, doing yard work, going out to my property, etc. There are many reasons why bringing your keys around is not convenient.
