Default Factory Build Procedure Question

My truck was ordered 1/7/15. Delivery date was 3/27/15. It's 4/6/15 and still no truck, not even on a rail car yet, heading from DTP to South Jersey.

My dealer tells me the reason for the delay was they pulled the truck to install the moon-roof, that it gets sent off-site to have this done and now it's waiting to be put on a train, but they have no idea when that will happen.

Does the moon roof get installed during the build procedure or do they send it offsite after the truck is done to have it installed? Seems like it would be a lot easier to do it while the truck was being built rather than sending it offsite later.

Unbelievable how bad this whole story is.

Your dealer/salesman is telling you a falsehood. The entire truck is built at the factory - they are not outsourcing the sunroof. Why he's not telling you the truth is anyone's guess. Do you have the VIN? You can go to the order tracker ( http://wwwqa.cotus.ford.com/ ) to see where it's at in the process - assuming you didn't know that already.

Good luck! Report back here because stuff like this is always interesting - sharing the rest of the story is very important!

I tracked it thru Cotus all along the way. It went from order processing, into production, 6 days later I got a VIN. Watched it go to awaiting shipping, all along the delivery date stayed at 3/27. Meanwhile, my dealer told me delivery was going to be the week of March 16th, then the week of the 23rd and then on the 30th when I called the General Manager, he said "Well, the truck was pulled for some reason, it's not in transport, it's not even on a rail car yet". We'll find out what's going on Then I went to dealer on a sunday, took down the VINs of the 5 trucks they had there, and went back to Cotus to see how long it takes to get a truck from DTP to Lumberton NJ. 4 of the 5 took 16 days, one took 11. So that means I'm still at least two weeks out, that's if it got on a rail car today.

Then they gave me the story the reason for the delay was that it was pulled to have the moon roof put in, that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the truck, but also tells me tonight, they can't find out why it's not being shipped. He said "They have 1,800 trucks awaiting shipment". Well no kidding, they have 1,200 a day waiting for shipping. What's new or different about that.

I can't imagine that with the number of trucks that are being delivered with the moonroof, that's it's not simply part of the standard build process, as you've indicated.

This whole process really stinks. Being lied to, no information, delay after delay and still no truck.

I would have gone and just got another, but my configuration is pretty unique and going back to ford.com and looking at available inventory, there isn't one within 300 miles of here that is near the same truck. So, here I sit

Sounds to me like it failed some part of the QC inspection. Could have been the moonroof that failed. They fix them in house. Might have had a new roof installed.

At one time when they first started building the new trucks, they were backup with a ton of QC repairs. Many of the first folks to order waiting longer than people that place there order in Nov and Dec. Reason, QC repairs. They take much longer and sometimes parts hard to come by.

I put money on the fact something failed to pass on your truck and that is why it is taking longer than it should.
