Gents,

Ive read a few threads where the discussion talks about the locking diff, but people also talk about traction control in the same thread - emulating a locking diff. I know a few vehicles use the emulators now.

Is the F150 factory locking rear diff actually a locking diff, or an emulator? Meaning the transfer case switch on the dash, pull it out to engage the rear diff lock. Any difference in years or generations?

Edit. I believe I found my answer.

Actual locking. Magnetic locking / spring unlocking.

 

The switch mechanically locks the diff. I believe what you are thinking about is the ABS braking the spinning wheel to give more traction to the non or less spinning wheel mimicking an LSD.
