Default F-150 Regular Cab

Have noticed some new configurations in the current generation F-150 regular cab. The wheelbase has been reduced from 126' to about 122". The gas tank has been reduced from 26 gallons to 22 gallons - that I understand with the new 10-speed and less weight and maybe OK. But, what I don't understand is the interior cargo area being reduced considerably from 17.4 cubic feet to 12.1 cubic feet. Maybe both related to the reduced wheelbase? By any measurement, that is a 30 percent loss of interior space from a cabin that already got harder to access with the loss of the little extra doors from previous generations.

Does anyone have any actual experience with the new regular cab vs. what we currently own - a 2007 with the nice little back doors and a 2013 that isn't as comfortable or as easy to use. Hate to lose the 26 gallon gas tank and the loss of interior space is disturbing. Obviously, I was looking at replacing the older truck with similar when I wondered about the pictures of the new ones.

Thank you.....

I have a 2018 RCLB that replaced my 2013 RCLB. as much as I love it, I couldn't help but notice that there's significantly less room behind the seat. I do light moves and deliveries, and I had no problem fitting flat screen TVs back there in the last one. This one barely fits my tool box. Mine's an HDPP, so it still has the 36 gallon tank. The bed isn't any shorter (8'), so the loss of interior space is definitely related to the reduced wheelbase.

I went from a '95 RCSB to a '16 RCSB.

So I am pleased as punch with all the great roominess in the '16.

For real.

Pecked out on my iPhone.

My '04 F-150 Heritage RCSB has a wheelbase of 120" and a 25 gal gas tank. It has about twice the room behind the seat than that of my '17 reg cab. I don't think reduced wheelbase is the only factor. The new trucks might also use more area up front.
