External ambient air temp sensor - 2018 F150 Lariat

If I had to, would consider running the aftermarket AAT sensor wires directly to the wires entering the trucks harness connector, bypassing the connectors altogether for the 2 AAT wires.

Interesting thing--my 2018 had a bad one from the factory. It would give crazy readings, then show two lines, then throw a check engine light. Seemed to only happen in cold weather. Dealer replaced it under warranty. I think it's fine now (haven't had any cold days), but I do notice it's slow to update sometimes.
Today, almost three months later, a guy from the dealer calls me and says "Hey, can I come to wherever you are and take some pictures of your truck and mirror? Ford just reached out to me and asked me if I could get some photos because it was a sensor failure on a newer 2018."
I wonder if they're investigating something.

This is me in the past 24 hours. been -10 here and i park in my garge. Noticed that the outside temp sensor was showing -- instead of a number. Number came back this morning but got a message to the fordpass app that said engine misfire and the check engine light came on. I took it to a local auto place as the ford dealer has no techs in on saturdays. they checked the code and was p0071 which makes me think it is the same sensor. we'll see if it comes back and if so I'll take it into the dealer.

Hi guys, question on swapping the XLT mirrors form an earlier year (2017) into a 2018 XL....my factory mirrors have the ambient temp sensor. I was unaware of this but quickly discovered it would throw a code , I temporarily spliced in the temp sensor after adding the pins to the harness after closely evaluating the connector.. I reset the code and no more codes and the temp display looks good now. UNFORTUNATELY MY AC COMPRESSOR WONT COME ON!!!!!! I checked the relay and I checked fuses to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas? No code means I am good but what about my ac?

Hi Guys,
Very interesting Forum.
I have a 2018 XLT with the sensor in the mirror and the old one at the front grill is still attached to the grill. This give me an temp error by 20 deg celcius over the normal temp. Probably Ford forgot to disconnect the old sensor and forgot to install the plug at the end of the cable.
Someone can post the P/N of the Plug please.
As a temporary solution I disconnected the one in the mirror and let the one at the front grill connected and it is working find.
Thanks
Steve

Have you tried lifting the NEGATIVE battery lead for a few minutes to let everything discharge and do a reset? I doubt it's the sensor. They either work or don't and if it has failed it should read a very high temperature. You can check it at the connector in the grill with a volt-ohm meter. Put the test leads on the appropriate pins and see that there is no to very little resistance. If you are savvy with the voltmeter you could read the milliVolt output.
