Interesting thing--my 2018 had a bad one from the factory. It would give crazy readings, then show two lines, then throw a check engine light. Seemed to only happen in cold weather. Dealer replaced it under warranty. I think it's fine now (haven't had any cold days), but I do notice it's slow to update sometimes.

Today, almost three months later, a guy from the dealer calls me and says "Hey, can I come to wherever you are and take some pictures of your truck and mirror? Ford just reached out to me and asked me if I could get some photos because it was a sensor failure on a newer 2018."

I wonder if they're investigating something.

I am currently at the dealership with the same exact issue. Took delivery of my 2018 Lariat SuperCrew 4 days ago. We will wait and see what the dealer says.

Im wondering why they relocated it from the front grille to passenger side mirror. But it only seems the ones that were built in 2018, I spoke to a guy who's 2018 was built in 2017 and it was located in the grill, just like the 2017's.

I understand the date changes. I wanted to know why they decided to change it as on the earlier 2018, the sensor is located behind the front grill and now the later built 2018, are now located on the bottom of the passenger side mirror.

The mirror is actually a better location. When mounted behind the grill, you can get false readings from engine/radiator heat. As an example, if it's 30F outside and you park your vehicle for a few minutes to pick up something from the store....you might return to find the reading says it is 50F outside (due to heat from the engine or radiator). This doesn't occur if it's mounted on the mirror.

Maybe they have had a few complaints? Or, maybe the reading is now tied into other systems (such as HVAC) and they want a more accurate reading at all times. I'm just making guesses, but this is logical.

Mine is in the grille. When I changed the grill I did not get it connected very good and it came apart. No a/c check engine light.
