Default Exhaust question

I'm replacing the stock muffler with a FlowMaster super 40 - 3" center in and center out.

The stock muffler is 2.5" offset in and offset out.

Questions are:

is the offset vs center a big deal to make it work?
I am assuming that I will have to change the stock muffler tip. What size muffler tip do I need for a 3" pipe?
Someone suggested that if the muffler shop opts for welding the new muffler instead of using joints, it'll rust and therefor not recommend ... can someone confirm this statement?

Thanks

Whoever said that is totally wrong. I have a custom true dual super 10 set up for 3 years with custom welded tips. there's no rust whatsoever. I would opt for a custom job by a reputable shop but that's just my opinion.

Depends on where you live. Salt on roads will rust welds in no time. San Diego, no issue.

Yeah,
It would just be the "mild steel wire" used in the Mig welder. It would also be mostly superficial. A lot of mufflers have about an 1/8th inch weep hole in the bottom rear to let the condensation drip out
Not to be a wise guy, but did you know the stock muffler is a straight through design? Very low restriction.

So the stock exhaust size is 2.5"? I thought it was 3" on the 2015s.

Gene hunt is right, and I believe the flowmaster are not a straight through, I know for sure the super 10 has some baffles in the center of it when you look in from each side, and I can also conform that a few guys around here have flowmaster exhausts and the pipes are all rusted, they didn't do any welding to their exhaust as they were cat backs, and we are central canada.

By replacing an offset/offset muffler with a straight/straight muffler you may run in to clearance issues but it will depend entirely on the size of your stock muffler versus the Super 40. However if you are removing an offset/offset muffler, we recommend you replace it with an offset/offset muffler. Especially if you do not intend to replace the exhaust piping after the muffler, it may negatively impact the alignment of your exhaust.

We do offer a Super 40 Series 3" offset/offset muffler that will work better for you than the straight/straight. It comes both in 409 Stainless Steel and Aluminized Steel.

The 2015 Ford F-150 stock exhaust diameter is 3" so you could run the stock piping after the muffler and the stock tip.

Rust may be a concern with welding but it's unlikely to be a major issue in San Diego.

We also offer the Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-back for your truck that comes with a specially designed single 3.00" in/ dual 2.50" out Super 40 Series muffler and 2.50" mandrel-bent piping from the muffler back. This is a complete Cat-back kit that also includes the option to run the tips directly out the rear of the vehicle or out the sides. You could install this in your driveway in a few hours with basic hand tools rather than taking the vehicle to a shop. The Flowmaster American Thunder Cat-back for the '15 F-150 is also stainless steel and comes with a lifetime limited warranty.

If you'd like, give us a call at 707-544-4761 and we can help find the exhaust that's right for you.

Both Flowmaster Super 10 and Super 40 Series mufflers are a chambered design that utilize Delta Flow technology to aid in the scavenging of exhaust gases and increase exhaust velocity.

Flowmaster offers both aluminized steel and stainless steel cat-back systems. Our aluminized steel systems have a 3 year warranty and our stainless steel systems have a lifetime limited warranty. We recommend the stainless steel for anybody who lives in an area where they use salt or chemicals to de-ice the roads so that they never have to buy another exhaust again.
