Long story short. If you're waiting for the new F150 to get to current rebate levels before buying one, you'd better set your sights on a 2018 or maybe 2019. Just my prediction.

Sorry but if any salesman uses this line to justify several thousand dollars higher of a price tag and zero rebates I have a feeling Ford is in for a rude awakening.

hasn't ford said the use of aluminum has increased the price by about $600 per truck on average? Pretty sure I've read that multiple times. If that is true I see no reason for them to discontinue the way they do rebates. They already increased msrp that much on the upper trims, so why wouldn't they be able to continue with the same rebates? There is no way they can remain a sales leader if they can't compete with ram and GM on price.

Rebates will depend entirely on how the vehicle sells. At first there will be good sale numbers because many people have been waiting on the new model and pre-orders will drive up the numbers. I suspect after the initial surge it will dry up a little in February due to high cost and empty wallets following the holiday spending sprees.

Unfortunately trucks have gotten really expensive over the years to the point that they're like buying a high end sports car, not a utility vehicle. I've read many threads on this site where people are ordering 2015 F150's at $65,000+. Good for them, I wish I could do the same, but most people in the US cannot afford that. The F150 I built online and plan to buy is $45,000 which is a lot of money no matter who you are. There are similarly equipped 2014 Silverados and Rams sitting on lots near me for $38,000 and $36,000. It will require some major discounts before I can pull the trigger.

Furthermore the addition of the Colorado will further dilute sales and increase pressure on Ford because the "weekend warrior / MPG conscious" customers that the 2.7 is targeting will be targeted by the Colorado. For instance, when I built a similarly equipped Colorado online the difference was $10,000 less than the Ford. Unless the MPG is a drastic improvement, the high cost of these trucks will require some discounts to keep them moving at a steady pace. By the sounds of it, a 10-20% improvement on fuel efficiency, while still positive, is just not enough to offset the increased cost for many.

Long story short, because of the high prices on these they'll eventually have to offer some discounts and I'm guessing that they'll start in April after the snow is gone and after gas prices are back to their norms.

My plan was to trade my '11 FX4 Ecoscrew for the same '15 (Lariat w/FX4 pkg) when they become available. The price quoted was $25K plus my trade. I know I was going to pay a premium but I was OK with it. I like the idea of aluminum here in the rust belt. I was going to stay with the 3.5 because I average over 20mpg after 80K miles. Anyway, they kept pushing off the arrival date so I started looking around for a 2014. The dealers seemed anxious to make deals and I ended up with a FX4 like my '11 with nav and moon roof thrown in. I saved about $6K as compared to the '15. I'm happy but I am still going to look at the '15 closely when they arrive.

I'm not looking for many options. I can build the truck I want for 38,000. xl supercab 4x4 chrome package rearview camera seating for six and cloth interior. Debating on the engines it depends how much better mpg the 2.7 gets. When I can get that truck for under 30,000 after rebates I will do it. If I can't get that within a year from now I'll probably buy a slightly used 2014 or wait a little longer and buy a used 2015. Right now I can buy a similar optioned truck as a 2014 model for about 28,000.
