I have a 2015 F150 that just had a code that come up, P05AE, Active grille air shutter “B” performance/ stuck off. Is there any troubleshooting that can be done, or do I need to just replace the grille shutter? Thanks for any assistance.

 

Shutter B is the lower one. You can visually inspect the shutters for debris or damage that could be causing the shutters to bind. You can see if the shutters are cycling open and closed on start-up. This is a calibration cycle for the shutter motor.

 

Thanks! I was able to observe the upper shutters cycling through when I start the truck, however, the lowers do not move. Nothing seems to be blocking the shutters and they do not appear to be damaged. Does one motor work both the upper and lower shutters?

 

No, they are separate actuators and operate separately. I don't think they are very expensive.
