So I've having my steering sticking and binding when turning left. My truck has 46000 miles on it it's a 2019 4x4 with 5.0. The dealer replaced the steering rack once under warranty at 10k for the same issue now the second steering rack failed. I was under the assumption that the part's warranty would cover it but. I was told that since the first rack was covered under a warranty claim that warranty part's have a 1 year warranty but if I buy them out right they come with a 2 year warranty. I wasn't happy when the dealer told me I owed 1800 dollars for the repair. I immediately called Ford customer service told them my situation and long story short ford covered my repairs all I need to pay was the tax. So now I'm on my third steering rack and the truck isn't 3 years old yet. I'm happy that for took care of it.
First I've heard of this horse **** in the 13th gen... Lots of it in the 12th gen, and I dealt with it twice on my 12th gen. Second time it started feeling weird I traded it.
I would have expected this to be covered under the 5/60 powertrain warranty??? Well, I'm glad Ford covered it for you then.
Why did the same failure occur twice in the same truck though?
I would say probably cheap parts probably made during pandemic times.. first one was constantly pulling left they replaced the whole rack under warranty. This is the replacement for the second one they said one of the internal gears had a bad spot and that's where it was sticking and binding and if you didn't pull the wheel back you keep going left.i would imagine that it wouldn't be covered under power train warranty because it's not the part of the engine transmission or from or rear differentials
