Engine/transmission combos
Does anyone know or have an opinion about the best engine and trans for towing a 4000 lb. trailer? I have a 2019 F150 Sport with the 2.7 ecoboost and 10 spd. trans. It is not the best for towing my travel trailer.
The rear end went out while on a trip and Aamco said this is a bad combination for towing and the truck was not built for towing. I am going to replace this truck and wonder what others have had better luck with?

That truck should tow a 4000 lb trailer with ease. 2.7 EB / 6r80 / 3.55 here and I’ve towed our 4500 lb Airstream over 10,000 miles in the past two years with this truck. I barely even know it’s back there.
Something else must be going on with that truck cause a 2.7 and 10 speed should tow your camper extremely well.

So, there are a few different rear end options that were available. 3.31, 3.55, 3.73 & 4.10. The worse for towing would be the 3.31. That said, it should do ok for under 5k trailer. Are there other issues you experience towing, or do you simply feel it is too slow off the line and under powered? Because you asked for better combinations, find a truck with a 3.55 or higher rear end, and one listed with tow package, and already has the factory brake controller. Find one with maxtow, and you will have a few better options, and best for me, a 36 gallon gas tank. The 3.5 engine or the 5.0 are both more powerful than your 2.7 and will meet your needs easily. Any and all Ford trucks after 2017 have their quirky issues, some like me have had zero issues, some are plagued with issues. Many of the issues can be expensive to fix.

Your incorrectly jumping on that one opinion.
There is no other Trans but the 10 speed in those trucks (2019) for all engine combinations.
Sport is just an option package combination level.
4000 lbs is not a very high towing weight.
You just Bad some bad luck with the one you got.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the info. Yes I believe I have the 3.31 rear. That's what Aamco had to search for. I have since discovered there was a recall on my rear but the dealer said it was done before I owned it. (2nd owner)
They also had to install the brake controller before I would buy the truck. This leads me to think the truck was not set up to tow from the factory. Every truck has a hitch but this truck was not "designed" to tow. It IS sporty and I love how it handles and accelerates but I should have done my homework.

even with the 3.31, having the 10r80, that truck should tow it just fine.
as I said, I have 3.55 and the 6r80, my camper is about 500 lbs more, and it tows like it’s not even back there. Plenty of power.
Unless your camper weights a lot more than advertised. I’ve seen members on here saying they tow 7k with their 2.7 and it was “fine.” I’d never dream of towing that much, but 4000 is nothing. Even the N/A 3.5/3.3 should be able to tow that just fine.

Yes I have the 7 pin. The dealer added the factory ford brake controller before I would buy the truck. (in the dash). That said it doesn't have the optional "trailer tow package" from the factory so it wasn't designed to tow a 4000 lb. trailer all over the country. I've put 25000 miles on it towing my trailer. The truck records it when connected.
I should have gotten the 5.0L with the 6r80 trans. I understand the 10r80 is not the best trans. Ford ever made. They are trying to raise the MPG by giving you 2 overdrive gears (9 and 10 both are). Aamco said it is the most frequent F150 trans. that they work on. A lot of problems!
Wanna buy a truck? I have one I'm selling!
