I don't plug in until its going to be colder than -35°C [-31°F]. Plugging it in at 40°F would be a waste of electricity.

That being said, I'm not sure I'll be plugging it in at all this winter, as I'm still waiting for a replacement cord for the block heater recall.

My recall is done and my work lets me plug it in! No reason for me not to plug it in...

With the problematic cam phasers on these engines, reportedly due to lack of lubrication, I'd also plug the heater in waaay 'warmer' than 0F. Remember most engine wear happens at start up, and the colder the oil, the worse it'd be, since it takes longer to start lubricating properly, especially higher up in the engine, as stated previously. I thought it got cold where I live (in the 20s), but that's nothing compared to the temperatures listed above.

Howdy neighbor, im in Calgary too. You wont really need the block heater if you dont plug in unless its -35 because we barely hit that lol I'll plug in around the -25 mark

Yes, I know. Plugged in twice last winter. I've lived in Calgary since 1972.

Have you called the dealer recently? Took them a couple days to get mine in.

Mine never made any angry noises when cold.

Granted, it wouldn't start unless I'd plugged it in when it was truly cold, either, so it was more like sad whimpering.

I'm on a list for a call-up when the part comes in. I will give them to the end of November, then I'll call them. I'm not in a rush. The real cold weather is usually after Xmas.

Keep calling them, Ive been on one of those lists before, 3 years to be exact for the ignition recall on my wife's Chrysler minivan until I walked in the dealership and said I wasn't leaving until they completed the recall. They strangely enough had plenty of parts on hand that day! Weird.
