Default Engine Over Temp

2016 F150 2.7 I finally finished replacing my engine coolant temperature sensor, wiring harness with knock sensors, and the cylinder head temperature sensor. Nothing looks like a problem on the wiring harness. When I turned the key on, it started dinging and gave me an over temp warning and the temp gauge was still pegged. The only code it has is a P1299. Any ideas what to check next?

Did you clear the code? It doesn't go away on its own.

My scanner won't clear it. My understanding is that you have to fix the problem and then drive it. Am I missing something?

YES, as 52Merc has already said. You MUST clear the code P1299 with a scanner or something like Forscan after you have "fixed" (replaced the CHT sensor) the issue in order to return to normal ops. Just driving the vehicle post replacing sensor will not clear P1299.

Any ideas on what scanner will do this? I have a Bluetooth ODBll scanner that won't clear it. I have a ODBll cord for my laptop that I used to turn off auto start/stop when I first got my truck, but my laptop is out of commission.

I recommend FORScan. Great tool. See Sticky thread above on FORScan - post #1.

I finally got it reset and it works great so far. I hope it lasts. I ended up using a scanner I picked up on Amazon. AMTIFO OBD2 Scanner with Battery...
