Engine heat
Bought a 2020 lariat with the 3.5 turbo. 6 days after I bought it, got rear ended at a stop light and pushed into the truck in front of me. The truck in front was lifted so his bumper hit right across my grill and punctured the radiator. It was in the shop for a month getting fixed and ive had it back for a couple weeks now.
I say this to say that I might be over sensitive to any symptoms, and I wasnt completely used to the truck before the accident so I dont know if this is normal.
I went for a short drive, no more than 5 miles today, and had been home about an hour, and walked outside passed the front of the truck and felt heat still coming off the engine with a little plastic smell. I popped the hood and nothing jumped out at me as being out of order.
Coolant was at the low line, but not below it, and no check engine light.
Is this normal? It only has 1000 miles on it, could it still be part of the break in?
Thanks for any help

I don't think there is anything to worry about. With all the work that would have been done, I'm sure there are enough new parts that it will smell for a while. Remember, there are 2 turbochargers and they create a fair amount of under-hood heat.
I think its normal. My 2019 3.5 lariat was the same for like at least 10k miles. I'd get out of that thing and it felt like an oven walking past it aometimes...and yeah you could def smell burning metal and plastic. It either went away or I got used to it, not sure. I know I made a thread just like this in the past, haha.
Interesting post - I'm coming from Toyota - Tacoma and Corolla - to F150 5 liter and Escape 2.5 liter - it seems that the Ford engines are a lot hotter in the engine compartment and consequently in front of the vehicle when stopped.
