Default Engine Cooling Fan

2018 F150 3.5L Eco SCREW XLT

Hi,
I have been noticing lately that after driving up a hill or after prolonged 'foot on the gas' that the engine cooling fan is running at what seems like full tilt. I have not noticed this before. The engine doesn't overheat and the outdoor air temp is about 0degC. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this happening.

Thank you

I think you have TWO engine cooling fans. Is only one of them coming on?

Yes my 2017 3.5 Eco does that. Even if the engine isn't working hard, I can hear the fan(s) running full tilt while doing about 50mph, especially if I have the window open. Any faster, and I can't hear it but it's probably still going. When I let off the gas and slow down for a stop or turn, then the fan starts to slow down as well. I just figured it was programmed to do that, and haven't given it a second thought.

Antifreeze level? Have you changed the thermostat?

The radiator fans should work in unison and at ONLY two speeds (low and high). Attached is pdf from 52merc that is excellent. It is electrical specific for 2015-2017 years, for your 2018 the fuses will most likely change, but his concepts are the same,

I took it to a shop and they said there are two discharge sensors that are reading high values on the A/C system. They kinda suggested I have Ford look at it though as they were not sure about a couple things. Does anyone know what sensors he may be referring to? Maybe I can replace them myself?

Probably not a great idea if you don't know what you're doing. You could disable the A/C completely and have to take it in to the dealer for bigger issues.

I have a 2018 with same engine. After the Cam Phasers were replaced it started doing this. Was especially loud when cresting a hill. Dealer ended up changing thermostat and water pump (there was a small leak). Since then I rarely if ever hear the fan. I was also running around 215 to 225 temp with just normal driving. That's down to between 195 and 205 now.

Has anyone done any AC charging on your truck prior to all of this?

I had the same issue with my 2019 3.5. I ended up replacing my thermostat with the new updated part and haven’t heard the cooling fan since. Coolant temp is about 10°C lower now as well.
