Default Engine break-in

It has been some time(long, long time) since I have had a new vehicle. My last car had stated that you should not run at a steady sustained speed until the vehicle had 1000 miles on it.

We have a family trip coming up and was wondering about a break in period for the engine? Would it harm the engine to get on road, right after delivery, and drive at a sustained turnpike speed (70-75 mph) for 600 miles?

Thoughts or opinions welcomed,
Tom

Who knows whether the engine would suffer...or the tranny or the differential or the ? But, such driving would definitely violate the manufacturer's recommendations stated in the OM.

It took me quite awhile to find it going through the owners manual:

BREAKING-IN

You need to break in new tires for approximately 300 miles (480 kilometers). During this time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual driving characteristics.
Avoid driving too fast during the first 1000 miles (1600 kilometers). Vary your speed frequently and change up through the gears early. Do not labor the engine.
Do not tow during the first 1000 miles (1600 kilometers).

70-75 is not "too fast", just make sure you use the +/- clicker to vary RPMs. Let it drive in 6th for a while then drop to 5th for some time, down to 4th and back to 6rd, you get the point...
To break in the tires: sport mode, traction control off, brake stand at 2,000 rpm and full throttle should do it (i'm kidding...)

I've wondered about the no towing restriction. I'm assuming that's just so the engine doesn't work too hard. I only tow 1/4 mile to the boat ramp (extremely steep ramp) so I'm thinking I won't be abiding by that.
