Exclamation electrical problem

Hi all. Hoping to get some help. I have a 2015 f150 fx4 4x4 truck. I was towing a cargo hauler through remote Canada, and the truck significantly lost power. I noticed a wire harness that seemed to be hanging down that I might have bumped with my foot. As I adjusted that harness, my dashboard and video console area (where the backup cam is) would come on and off, almost it it was shorting, but I eventually the dash went black.

The cable was attached to this part: fomoco dl3j-15603-aa. It looks like this is a remote start module? Is this likely the problem area or something else? With covid and being far from a dealership, I'm stuck for a bit.

I should also note - car will still drive, but no dash, no screen. Auto transmission doesn't shift right. Rear windows can roll down but not front. Backlights work. Any ideas? Would photos be helpful?

Yes some photos would help. There are a lot of modules and switches under the driver side dash.

That wire was the one that seemed to have the short

I notice the remote lock doesn’t work and that box module will blink red or orange when the car is on.

That is not a factory installed item. No way a module would be just jammed up under the dash, to later fall down like that. The un-wrapped harness wires also indicate a real hack job of the install. How long have you owned the truck? That is part of an alarm and remote start kit as shown below.

I would start by finding all the connectors and making sure they are tightly connected. You could have pulled one slightly apart when you caught the wiring with your foot.

thanks I’ll go through them now. I just got it to a shop and they said “no error codes”. I actually undid the wiring harness tape to see if I could fine a break when it seemed
to be snorting out - I was hoping I’d find just a loose connection or broken wire. I didn’t find one.

I have had the truck since 3k miles - around 3 years.

When you caught the wiring with your foot you could have unseated a terminal inside a connector. You might have to actually pull all those connectors apart and inspect all the terminals to make sure they are actually making contact.

Good luck.

Thanks you saved the day. I get it was the main data port. Not sure if the two are related but that was enough to get it into the shop. It's now through a low fuel pressure error, but I don't think the two are related. Again thanks for your advice!
